The Conservation department, housed in two modern facilities, is dedicated to the conservation and restoration of works of art in the collection of the Yale Center for British Art. In addition to supporting its own conservation needs, the Center cares for works of art on paper from the permanent collection of the Yale University Art Gallery. Material conservation was the purview of the Prints and Drawings department until July 1997, when the Conservation department was created. The Conservation department is dedicated to educating staff, fellows, Yale students, and the public about conservation practices through lectures, demonstrations, workshops, and research projects.
The Conservation department records include general administrative records, such as information for annual reports, priority surveys, surveys of the permanent collection, and documentation of exhibitions and incoming and outgoing loans. Additonally, there are materials used for conservation research, which include samples of carpet and foam.
The materials are in English.
