"There are two versions of this catalogue: the sale catalogue and a later (1755) publication of the paintings in the sale. The difference is that the later publication listed the paintings in a different order, with no lot numbers, and included additional description information. The paintings were grouped by genre in the publication: Portraits, Landscapes and Sea-Pieces, Architecture (which included landscapes with architecture and ruins), Flowers and Fruit, Animals, and Histories (which included genre scenes). This note was included in the first description in the later publication: 'N.B. The verses added to some of these Portraits were written by Dr. Mead, and inscribed under those which adorned his Gallery. Where the sizes are not mentioned, it must be understood that they are Heads only of the size of Life.'"--Getty provenance index databases.
