"New edition of the text first published in 1800 ..., with the addtion of an index. The signing and pagination of the preliminaries is unusual and seems to have been influenced by that of the second edition ..., which includes an interpolated bifolium after the title-leaf, signed 'a' and paginated '[1], *iv-*vi'. It is probable that the first two gatherings were imposed together, and subsequently gathered into two."--British Architectural Library.

Advertisement to the Second edition: p. iii-vi.
BAC: British Art Center Folio A 2006 2 copy incomplete. Edition uncertain, although not the first. An engraved sheet, bearing illustration of gothic ornament, has been affixed atop the title page, obscuring much of the title and nearly all of the imprint. Includes text up to page 133, plus index (pages [171]-176), which was issued with the third edition only (see British Architectural Library entry). Profusely extra-illustrated; the word twelve (of "twelve plates") on the title page has been crossed out in manuscript, and replaced with "CCC," i.e. 300. Sheets belonging to the original published work have been interleaved into a large album (53 x 34 cm), in which are mounted engravings of Gothic buildings from contemporary source books, arranged in chronological order. All engravings are closely trimmed to the image, with universal loss of original captions and imprints. The compiler of the album notes, in pen and black ink, the date of many of the buildings and (less frequently) identifies the edifice.
