Clarence Lawson Wood (1878-1957), a draughtsman, caricaturist, and watercolorist, studied at the Slade School of Fine Art, London. He contributed artwork to publishing houses and illustrated magazines in London.
Sketchbook of figure drawings by Lawson Wood, probably for class during his study at the Slade School of Fine Art, London, 1895. All of the sketches are in graphite, and ten have flesh toned crayon highlights. The figure drawings depict men and women, clothed and nude, usually in posed classroom settings. Some of the drawings (of clothed figures) appear to be from outside of a classroom, in a street or public setting. The small set of sketches that are not figure drawings include skulls and skeletons (some with anatomical labels), a horse and carriage, houses, and various street scenes (including a billiard hall in Glower Street). A few of the drawings are signed and dated 1895.
